Technical Features

The Fiat Abarth 124 Sport Rally is one of the most iconic Italian sports cars of the 1970s. Developed by Abarth’s racing department from the base of the Fiat 124 Sport Spider, it was specifically designed for international rally competition.

The car is powered by a 1,756 cc twin-cam four-cylinder engine, derived from the Lampredi engine family and extensively tuned by Abarth with high-performance cylinder head, optimized intake system, and lightweight components. Road versions produced over 120 horsepower, while racing versions could reach significantly higher outputs.

Key technical features include:

Longitudinal front-mounted twin-cam engine
Rear-wheel drive layout
5-speed manual transmission
Reinforced sport suspension system
High-performance braking system with four-wheel disc brakes
Lightweight body components
Wider wheel arches and rally-specific chassis setup
Typical Abarth equipment also included:

full sports instrumentation
sport steering wheel
dedicated seats
mechanical and suspension components derived from competition experience.
Production and Rarity

Produced in limited numbers between 1972 and 1975, the Fiat Abarth 124 Rally was built to meet the homologation requirements for Group 4 rally competition. Compared with many contemporary sports cars, production numbers were relatively low, making surviving examples highly desirable among collectors worldwide.

The model played a significant role in Abarth’s rally history during the 1970s, achieving numerous successes in European and international competitions.

Today, examples retaining original documents, complete historic certifications and their first registration plates are particularly rare and extremely sought after.
